What is printART? How does it work?

PrintART is a propriatory decoration paper for blank glazed ceramicwares. It is developed by Ceramique Studio. It is suitable for all glazed surfaces such as tiles, tableware, artware etc. The papers come in a wide selection of colours, patterns and textures. To produce professionally looking designs, all you need to do is cut and paste! . After firing, it is weatherproof, food-safe and dishwasher proof. These papers are suitable for children

The availability of these papers empowers the layman (with no ceramic decoration background) to create unique bathroom feature walls, designer tableware, gift items, utilitywares etc... the list is endless. These blankware should be tested before production work is done.

PrintART papers are very versatile. They can be cut into small pieces and laid in an overlapping manner to create mosaic effect. Large shapes can also be overlapped to create interesting colour tones.

PrintART is very easy to use.
STEP 1: Make certain that all of your ceramic ware (tiles, cups, canisters, plates, etc.) are all thoroughly washed and cleaned. Have them set up near the soaking decals for easy access. Make sure that your blank ware is slightly wetted so that the decal can be moved easily and positioned correctly.

STEP 2: Cut out the shape from the printART paper. Work on one shape at a time. Remove the shape from the water half and 1 minute later. Place the shape (still on backing paper) on desired position and carefully place right hand thumb/finger on edge of decal whilst sliding away backing paper using left hand. If the shape does not fall into perfect position, then you can gently move it into place using the tips of your fingers.

STEP 3: In order to smooth out the decal and remove all of the water bubbles, you will need to use an object called a squeegee. This rubber device is used by holding the decal from one end with your fingertips (very gently) and gliding across it in the opposite direction with the squeegee making certain that there are no bubbles and no creases in the transfer. For delicate shapes, you may need to use and tweezer and dry brush (for intricate design).

If you are decorating ceramic tiles, and you are using a large size shape for the mural, then it is important to have the right number of tiles laid out as closely together as possible so that the printART shape can be applied to the set of tiles at once. When this is completed and when the mural is totally dry, then use a sharp blade to cut the printART papper along the lines of the tiles, separating the printART paper into several decorated tile pieces.

STEP 4: Once the printART paper is applied then put it aside in a cool dry place for it to dry. The ware needs at least 3-4 hours to dry. The ideal drying time though is 6 hours (or just allow to dry overnight). Leave to dry and fire in ceramic kiln to 750 - 800
degress.

For production work, printART papers are for sale studio firing is available upon request. Please contact:
